Lil Nas X Racks Up VMAs Nominations for "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)"

Not too shabby for a self-professed "Industry Baby."

You can call him by your name, but you can also call Lil Nas X a VMA-nominated star.

The nominees for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards were unveiled on Wednesday (August 11), and the out-and-proud rapper did not go unrecognized. Nas X racked up a total of five nominations for his super sexy, super gay "Montero (Call My By Your Name)" music video, including Video of the Year, Video For Good, and Best Direction.

The song's visuals are impossible to forget, but in case you somehow missed it, the video sees Nas X descend into hell on a stripper pole and give Satan a lap dance. Need I say more?

Nas X is in good company, too: His fellow Video of the Year contenders include Cardi B and bicon Megan Thee Stallion, who were nominated for their incredible "WAP" music video. Norwegian indie-pop singer Girl in Red, who is openly gay, is up for Push Performance of the Year for her vulnerable bop "Serotonin." Miley Cyrus also scored a nod for Best Collaboration for "Prisoner," her hit single with Future Nostalgia diva Dua Lipa.

Overall, "Peaches" singer Justin Bieber is leading the pack with seven nominations.

He might be an "Industry Baby," but this isn't Nas X's first VMAs rodeo. Back in 2019, the 22-year-old rapper took home two Moon People for his smash-hit breakout single "Old Town Road" with Billy Ray Cyrus.
