Sense8 won’t return for its second season until May 5, but fans of the surreal Netflix series will be given a reprieve in the form of a two-hour Christmas special streaming December 23.
A new trailer out today shows the Sensates are still interconnected, and still facing threats from all directions.
The special will really be the first episode of the second season, but producers wanted to give the show’s hardcore fans a treat, and also address some of the issues the holiday season engenders.
“When I was a kid, I loved holiday specials in the shows I used to watch,” says Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski.
“Holidays can make you feel so connected, in the way holidays can make you feel so isolated and alone. I wanted to tell a story in the first episode that was kind of about time in the present and how the new lives these characters were experiencing made them feel empowered, like they could do anything as long as they’re together.”
Sense8’s cast and crew were spotted this summer at Sao Paolo Pride, the world’s largest LGBT gathering.
Spectators caught cast members like Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Jamie Clayton and Brian J. Smith making out on a float. But how much of that was for the cameras and how much was just for fun we’ll have to wait till May to find out.
