Watch Shangela and Monét X Change Sashay Over to “Lovecraft Country”

Darryl Stephens from "Noah's Arc" makes a cameo too!

From Halleloo to Halle-Cthulhu!

RuPaul’s Drag Race legends Shangela and Monét X Change sashayed from the workroom over to Lovecraft Country in the latest episode of HBO’s supernatural horror series.

The episode, “Strange Case,” revealed that Atticus’ (Jonathan Majors) father Montrose (Michael K. Williams) is a closeted gay man in a secret relationship with Sammy (Jon Hudson Odom), a male drag performer. Montrose takes refuge with Sammy and his drag sisters as they get glammed up for a ball, and three of the girls should be familiar to Drag Race and Logo viewers. Not only did Shangela and Monét X Change make an appearance, but so did Darryl Stephens, who played the titular character on Logo’s Noah’s Arc.

“Yep, this country queen made it all the way to the Lovecraft Country last night,” Shangela posted on Instagram after the episode aired. “What a cool experience being a part of something so Legendary!”

This isn’t the first time Shangela has shown her acting chops outside of the Drag Race main stage. She portrayed one of Lady Gaga’s drag mothers in A Star is Born, played a “ruthless” drag queen on the CW’s Katy Keene, and went face-to-face with Mulder and Scully in a 2016 episode of The X-Files.

Hopefully Shangie and Monét return for more spooky shenanigans before HBO closes the book on this season of Lovecraft Country.

Lovecraft Country is available now on HBO and HBO Max.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
