Rob McElhenney Puts a Very "Always Sunny" Spin on "Gay Rights!"

Y'all wanted a twist!

Mac from It's Always Sunny said "gay rights!"—literally.

In a new viral video, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and co-creator Rob McElhenney is asked by a fan on a red carpet to utter a certain queer-friendly catchphrase. The FXX star obliges, even tacking on his own addition to the token (r)ally cry: "Gay rights? Gay mother-fuckin' rights!"

Of course, loyal It's Always Sunny viewers know that McElhenney plays Mac, the gang's resident gay. After many seasons of Mac's latent homosexuality being a running gag, the Paddy's Pub co-owner and devout Catholic finally came out in the show's two-part Season 11 finale.

The infamously raunchy series even ended its 13th season with an unexpectedly moving dance number meant to represent Mac's sexuality.

Though Mac is (finally, firmly) out of the closet, McElhenney himself is straight (and married to actress Kaitlin Olson, one of his It's Always Sunny co-stars).

The Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet actor is hardly the first straight celeb to aggressively voice his support of the LGBTQ community. Who could forget when Charli XCX screamed "gay rights!" while holding a bottle of poppers? Or when Golden Hour queen Kacey Musgraves confirmed she "loves the gays," and gave us the country-fied "gay rights" yell to end all "gay rights" yells?
